Hoger & Reed Take B1 Championship

GDI Goaltenders Zach Hoger and Reid Pennington have helped the Bantam 1 Winnipeg Hawks claim their second straight championship. Their 8-1 record helped them solidify a strong and quick playoff run.

They will head to Brandon, Manitoba March 18th to face off against the Brandon Wheat Kings, the Southeast Blizzard (Rural City AA Provincial Champion), and the Southwest Jets (Rural AA Provincial Champion) for the right to represent Manitoba at the upcoming Western Canadian Bantam Championships (WCBC) here in Winnipeg, Manitoba. With the win last night the Hawks have already earned a berth in the WCBC as the host team but can be named Provincial Champion and Team Manitoba if they come out on top after the Final Four. A Hawks win means that the Sharks (league finalists) would then become the host team at the WCBC.

Both Brandon Wheat Kings goaltenders, Reid Stallard and Tyler Gutenberg, also look to have strong outings in their run at the Provincials. With the Wheat Kings providing poor offensive strength this season both GDI goalies were peppered with an average of 40 plus shots per game. Stallard and Gutenberg have been persistent and have trained diligently on their off days which has helped them become stronger and push to success in the future.

Best of luck to all 4 goalies heading into Provincials!

Krause Fights Off St. Boniface

Young GDI protege Joshua Krause stood tall throughout his game this past Sunday.

The Minor Atom playoffs had Fort Gary Black competing against St. Boniface Red at Gateway. Krause displayed an array of technical skills during the game that he was taught at GDI Prairies training center. Heading into the A-Side quarter finals next Sunday, Krause looks to shut down his next opponent.

Always great to see our young goaltenders progressing and applying themselves to continually get better. Again, best of luck to each goaltender as they move deeper into playoffs... and remember to maintain your strengths, compete, and look forward to every new challenge!
