A veteran of the MJHL, Selkirk Steelers goaltender Joey Rewucki knows what it’s like to be in the playoffs, and this year that experience is paying off.
The Steelers are in a battle royal against rival Winkler Flyers. Game 6 of this series goes Tuesday night, with the Steelers up 3-2. Rewucki, 19, has been a stalwart in the Steelers’ net.
“Obviously it’s more important and intense because every game can bring you closer to winning the championship,” Rewucki says of his playoff experience,
“It gets a bit easier as you go through it. I haven’t found that it’s much different to prepare for the playoffs compared to the regular season, but in the playoffs I have found that players need to prepare more to take on those games because they are more intense.”
Posting a .931 save percentage so far these playoffs, the Steelers are able to focus on their offensive game, with the confidence that Rewucki can deliver in the net – a role that the young goalie is happy to fill.
“It can be a bit more pressure because it’s just me in there,” Rewucki says of the goaltender’s role. “So yeah, it can be a lot of pressure…but it’s okay. You get used to it and learn to prepare and perform better each game.”
