Krahn Named to Team West - World Junior A Challenge


GDI Prairies goaltender Matt Krahn has been selected to Team West for the 2010 World Junior A Challenge.

The World Junior Challenge will take place at the South Okanagan Events Centre in Penticton, BC. from November 8-14. Also joining Team West from the MJHL will be assistant coach Jomar Cruz of OCN Blizzard.



“This is a tremendous honour for these players and reflects the high quality of players within our league,” MJHL Commissioner Kim Davis said today. “This is an international level tournament and will be a lifetime memory for these players.”

“Matt was picked to the Team West squad based on his outstanding performance during the regular season,” Davis said of Krahn’s selection. “This selection reinforces the importance of players doing their best each and every game. Evaluators at various levels of hockey are always watching.”

A total of 41 players attended the Team West evaluation camp. Canada West has appeared in the gold medal game at all four previous World Junior A Challenges, winning gold in 2006 in Yorkton, SK, and 2007 in Trail, BC, before settling for silver in 2009 in Camrose, AB., and last year in Summerside, PE.

The Canada West roster is comprised of players from the British Columbia Hockey League (BCHL), Alberta Junior Hockey League (AJHL), SaskatchewanJunior Hockey League (SJHL), Manitoba Junior Hockey League (MJHL) and Superior International Junior Hockey League (SIJHL).

Canada West will play in Group B at the 2010 World Junior A Challenge,

joined by Russia and Switzerland, while Canada East, Sweden and the United

States will comprise Group A. The gold medal game is scheduled for Sunday, November 14.
