Miller Time Devastates Canadians
Team U.S.A's goaltender, Ryan Miller, shut down Canada early in the game on Sunday night and proceeded to till the end of the game. In the last minute of play he made several consecutive saves before his outstanding glove save that concluded Canada's last hopes of tying the game at 4-4. Moments after, the American's potted an empty netter to make the game 5-3.
Ryan Miller was outstanding for Team USA, stopping 42 of 45 shots against, and making many key game saves that held the American players in the game. As the announcers of the game described, "this was a vezina worthy performance". As it proves, when player's play for their country the best should come out of them.
With the victory, the Americans win Group A and earn the automatic berth to the quarterfinal round. Canada finishes second in the group and must now play Germany on Tuesday in a qualification game against Germany. If Canada beats Germany, it may set up a monster quarterfinal matchup against the Russian's.
Acknowledging Miller's performance tonight, this month leads to playoffs for many minor hockey goalies. As you watch the Olympics, take notice of the goaltenders who makes the key saves, along with the saves that are uncharacteristic/ "game savers". These are the goaltenders that help teams succeed and overall win championships.
