GDI-Prairies is pleased to announce its goaltender specific dryland program delivered by Pro-Fitness

GOALIE SPECIFIC DRY LAND TRAINING

Pro-Fitness Training is proud to announce that we will now be offering our personalized goalie training sessions at The Rink Training Center. In the past 10 years Pro-Fitness has trained hundreds of goalies who have become top NHL draft picks, succeeded in the WHL and played at the highest level for their age category. The Rink is now offering the only goalie specific dry land training to compliment the on-ice component provided by GDI.

As goalies and goalie parents alike know, goalies are very different from forwards and defenseman. Throughout the season, they don’t get specialized instruction and are expected to get better by seeing 400-500 shots a practice. For this reason goalies seek specialized instruction away from team practices. Nowhere else will you find a program as all encompassing as this.

Pro-Fitness’ goalie specific dry land training covers all the bases in order to produce a better goal tender:

1) Size: Unless you are 6’4”, get bigger. Cover more net=save more shots
2) Strength, Power and Quickness: The stronger the goalie, the faster and more powerful vertical and lateral movements are.
3) Posterior Chain Development: Most goalies have a significantly weak posterior chain in comparison to the workload it encounters during competitive play. This leads to tissue specific back injuries over time. Training the posterior chain will help produce a long term, injury free goalie.
4) Posture: Teaching proper squatting technique and spinal positioning, which is essentially the goalies stance, makes vertical movements much quicker and more efficient and again reduces the likelihood of injury. Additionally, strengthening the upper back will enable the goalie to maintain a position that benefits hand and arm positioning, allowing them to stay open and tall.
5) Conditioning: Being a well-conditioned goalie, means staying in the game. Conditioning along with all other training will be goalie specific.

Pro-Fitness Training will be offering our 1 hour+ training sessions in packages of 12 as of October 5th, 2009. All workouts will be age specific, as well as individualized based on in-gym and on-ice assessments.
